A huge congratulations to Nancy Burke, author of Only the Women are Burning , for being a Distinguished Favorites for the 2021 Independent Press Award!
Three women are lost in a single morning, one at a commuter train, one at a school, one while walking her dog in the woods. The police think the women are making some kind of political statement by setting themselves on fire….maybe members of a cult. But Cassandra knows better. You won’t rest until Cassandra, a mom and former anthropologist, solves the mystery of these fiery deaths. Part mystery, part science fiction, part a suburban domestic novel, Only the Women are Burning asks important questions about women in contemporary suburban lives.

Nancy Burke is the author of three book length works. Her most recent is Only the Women are Burning, a sci-fi fabulist mystery novel. The others include From the Abuelas’ Window and If I Could Paint the Moon Black. Her short fiction has been published in several literary journals and her short plays performed at festivals. Her short story, At the Pool was a finalist for the J.F. Powers Prize for Short Fiction. She earned her MFA in Creative Writing at Rutgers University, Newark in fiction with a concentration in dramatic writing. She is mother to three daughters and lives in Montclair, NJ.
